Into The Spiderverse is proof that live-action superhero movies will never look better than what animation can deliver. Imagine what we could have if animation weren’t so regularly seen as a lower art form than live acting. Honestly, on every aesthetic level Into The Spiderverse was absolutely phenomenal. Art direction, animation, music - all of it.
truly and this is why I hate all these “live action” remakes of animated movies, bc they run with the idea that live action is the final form of story-telling that all story-tellers should aspire to achieve when in fact animation gives more opportunity for unique & interesting expression, aesthetics, and concepts. Into The Spiderverse set a bar that I hope others will strive to meet.
It’s like people who think that still life realistic paintings are the highest form of art.
Animation can do things that live action could NEVER dream of. To focus on making animation as hyper-realistic as possible is to miss the point.
(See: why rosie thinks all these live actiond/realistic cgi disney remakes are a bad idea)
one of the millions of things i liked about spider-verse was that not only did all the female characters look different from each other, they gave mary jane her classic dimples and square chin, which might not seem like a big deal but you’d be surprised how much tiny details like those can make women in comic books look distinct
also seriously it feels like some animated films are pushing it to have two female characters who look even slightly different so i appreciate that spider-verse made sure every woman in it looked distinct from each other
